HISTORY

Our research group was founded in the middle of 2019 by Dr. Eduardo Sobarzo-Sánchez, full professor and researcher subscribed to the Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud at the Universidad Central de Chile (UCEN) as a way to gather a group of researchers that, across their skills and research expertise, the members of the Medicinal and Bioinorganic Chemistry (QMEDBIN) research group could generate new knowledge and attract with their academic achievements and research, under- and postgraduate students either at the Universidad Central de Chile and other chilean universities. In this sense, the collaboration of researchers in the scope of the Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products in varied universities in- and out of Chile, it will enable our growth as research group and obtaining financial support either with internal or external grants. From beginnings of 2019, Dr. Marianela Saldías Pérez joined this research group as main researcher of the Programa de Atracción e Inserción de Capital Humano Avanzado-PAI 2019, the first project of this type financed by CONICYT that Universidad Central de Chile obtained as sponsoring institution and that places it in an advanced clear way onto the university scientific research.

Nevertheless, the incorporation of international collaborators as well as of new under- and post-doctoral researchers with training in chemistry (chemists, pharmacists and similar) it will be able to make to arise in an exponential way our research proposals under protection of the enthusiasm and the curiosity that every young component of QMEDBIN will be able to reach. QMEDBIN wants to collaborate of ingenious enthusiast and assiduous in the emergence of the chemical research of excellence inside Universidad Central de Chile, giving capacity to the new proposals of research and collaboration, being able in short time to reach the achievements and merits sufficient to become as an university with high standard of quality and excellence in the fundamental research in chemistry.

Full professor and researcher at the Instituto de Investigación y Postgrado, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Universidad Central de Chile (CHILE). He was professor and researcher at the University of Chile (CHILE) and University of Santiago de Compostela (USC, SPAIN), wherein he follows as associate researcher at the Faculty of Pharmacy (USC) in the field of Natural Products - Medicinal Chemistry against CNS diseases, experimental studies about drug delivery systems, phytochemistry and parasitology. From these research lines, there have been generated more than 100 scientific articles of high impact index in the field of the Chemistry, Pharmacy and Nanotechnology compiled in several journals. On the base of the excellent experimental results, and of direct application in the scope of the health, such results have been protected in more than 9 (European) protection patents and PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) that cover the scope of the applied nanomedicine in neuro-degenerative and parasitic diseases. At the present time, he is International Referee of Research Projects in the fields of Biomedicine, in Argentina and Chile (FONCYT and FONDECYT, respectively), and Spain for the National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP).
